Ultraviolet disinfection is one of the technologies that has been used more and more frequently to improve the quality of drinking and pool water treatment. The principle of disinfection consists of photochemical damage of RNA and DNA, proteins, enzymes or other biologically important macromolecules.

The effectiveness of disinfection is dependent on the dose of UV radiation, the type of UV lamp used and their arrangement concerning the direction of flow of drinking, resp. pool water. To select the appropriate type of UV device, it is necessary to determine and guarantee the necessary dose of UV radiation, depending on the flow and quality of water in terms of its permeability, ie concentration and type of dissolved and undissolved substances that affect reflection or absorption of UV radiation.

The possibility of combining UV radiation with other treatment technologies leads to high water quality. The advantage is the reduction of operating demands, respectively. saving of chemical dosing and safe and easy operation in automatic mode. The disadvantage is the possibility of secondary contamination, so UV radiation alone is not suitable for hygienic security. In practice, it is therefore combined with, for example, chlorination
